Furnished Apartments
By: Kyle Thomas Haley
If you are a temporary renter due to a special career such as a flight
attendant, professional athlete or newscaster, consider renting a furnished
apartment. This option can provide a comfortable living situation without the
hassles of moving large possessions. Many furnished apartments can be rented by
the week or month. While a longer length lease will cost less, a shorter one
will provide the needed flexibility should a sudden move arise.
When renting a furnished apartment it is important to take a complete inventory
of its contents. Document any preexisting damage and write those into the lease.
Failure to do so could make you responsible for repairs or replacement of said
items.
Renting can at times seem like throwing money out the window. Instead of
investing money in a mortgage, rent is just an expense. And rent doesn’t provide
any tax breaks such as paying of interest.
However, renting does have its advantages, especially for those who don’t plan
on staying in a specific location for an extended period of time. Short-term
buyers will incur closing costs, property taxes and homeowners expenses that
most likely won’t be made up, not to mention the time-consuming aspects of
maintenance.
Additionally, luxury and furnished apartments can often be rented at well-below
market value. Since these units are usually not in terribly high demand, they
can be negotiated down in price.
